Settlement Grants Program

Asian Women at Work is funded by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) under the Settlement Grants Program (SGP). The aim of the SGP is to deliver services to migrant and refugee communities to be able to participate equitably in Australian society as soon as possible after arrival. AWatW runs its settlement program through its various outreach venues in Auburn, Bankstown, Blacktown, Cabramatta, Campsie, Hurstville and Marrickville. The program includes English classes, support groups, computer classes, hobby groups, social events, and information sessions about issues ranging from rights at work, the environment, health, and community law issues.

Under the program, our bilingual community workers assist women with individual casework, and every year over 2000 women contact Asian women at Work for services, issues range from English class, vocation training, employment rights, superannuation, health, housing, legal matter, domestic violence, applying for Centrelink benefits, union information and volunteering. Community workers also visit workplaces to distribute information kits.
